U.S. Pastry Competition 2013!

Monday 4th March 2013 - 10:31:53 AM

Benjamin Shelton (of Pre-Gel America)'s winning piece!

On Sunday, I got to attend a press tasting for the 24th Annual U.S. Pastry Competition put on by Paris Gourmet at the International Restaurant and Food Service Show of New York. The theme was “Women” and I enjoyed the towering sculpted sugar showpieces and sampled some delicious cakes!

Kir Rodrigez (of ICC)'s entry.

Luckily, I ran into blogging cohorts DessertBuzzThe Wandering Eater, and Finance Foodie. It was fun to talk sweets with them and to share the samples (this was 16 slices of cake we had to tackle) and our opinions on the submissions!

Dark Chocolate Griotte Cherry Gelee and Vanilla Cremeux by Sandro Micheli (of Daniel Restaurant)

This one was my fave and Chef Sandro won second place!

Sylvain Marrari (of Setai Hotel)'s entry

Salvatore Settepani (of Pasticerria Bruno)'s entry.

Javier Trujilo (of Kaufman Bakery)'s entry.

The judging committee included major pastry chefs including CST faves Johnny Iuzzini, Michael Laiskonis, Dominique Ansel, and more. All in all, it was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday and I hope to do more events like these!
