Here’s something new, I was recently gifted preview samples of Koru Creamery Style Yoghurt!
Here’s a new Kitty Sweet Tooth adventure about Chinatown! I want to do some more with her adventures all over the place. If you’re looking for the young coconuts, they’re sometimes at a vendor on Canal St. near Mott St. For the soup dumplings you can get them at Joe’s Shanghai, Joe’s Ginger, or Shanghai [...]
Great news! An izakaya (called, suitable enough Izakaya) has opened in Cobble Hill at 176 Smith Street over the weekend. Izakayas are a type of Japanese bar that serves pub food / small plates including things like okonomiyaki (a savory Japanese pancake), takoyaki (squid balls), and grilled onigiri (rice balls) as well as yakitori (grilled [...]
My piece on the Ninth Avenue International Food Festival just went up on Tree.com. Go and check it out!
This is a poem by my friend, cartoonist Yuuko Koyama about her experience in Japan right now. She is in the Tokyo area, she and her family are doing OK. Please consider donating to Doctors Without Borders at this link or other charities listed here. I’m living among the machines which I cannot repair I’m [...]
The cast of Avenue Q. Photo by: Carol Rosegg This week I was pleased to be invited to Avenue Q‘s Blogger night! I had seen this irreverent puppet-centric musical before years ago, and it was a treat to revisit it. The story of Princeton, a naive college graduate, settling into Avenue Q and searching for [...]
It was my first Fashion’s Night Out and I had a lot fun! The above photo is of the Rock Candy Cosmo from Dylan’s Candy Bar made with Triple Sec, Cranberry Juice, and Vodka garnished with a rock candy stick. Nice and sweet! Check out more celebs and sweets excitement below the cut.
I got to attend the Asian Feastival in Flushing this past Monday and it was fantastic! A great mix of samples from diverse Asian restaurants, as well as lectures, demonstrations, and an Asian green market too! (pictured above – Dduk sweet rice cakes).
You know we adore Jacques Torres here at City Sweet Tooth, so I was really excited to see that he’ll be taking part in The New York Culinary Experience this October! Imagine taking classes with Jacques, Pichet Ong, David Bouley and many more! Click below for all the details!
Despite the sporadic rain I made it out to the Japanese Healthy Food & Green Festival!
Just a reminder that the NY Japan Town Healthy Food & Green Festival is tomorrow! Madison Avenue between 43rd and 45th Streets (Map) starting at 11am. Johnny Tofu’s tofu cutting demo starts at 11am too!

They will be at Japan Town Healthy Food & Green Festival, on Sunday, August 22nd in Midtown, Manhattan (Madison Ave. bet. 43rd-45th) [...]
Now I just have to recuperate! In the meantime enjoy this photo of the lovely and talented Holly G! in her cupcake hat! You can read her cool comic, School Bites, for free here!
Went to CT this weekend and shared an amazing sushi feast at Miya’s Sushi (home of the Seven Deadly Sushi dessert I drew here). Lots of unique creations inspired by various countries, regions, and themes with an emphasis on sustainability. Yay, Miya’s!
I recently came across these adorable sweets decorations and jewelry while shopping at the charming Japanese shop Kiteya in Soho! They kindly gave me the lowdown on these unique items!
I got the chance to attend a Beauty Bash at Hudson Terrace (the same venue as February’s Global Giving Circle Chocolate Event).
This comic continues my French cheese adventures with my friend Xavier in Angoulême. The cheese shop was in the town’s large enclosed market. Definitely recommended if you’re ever in the area!
Happy New Year everybody! Hope you had a sweet one! Here’s something from 2008 I forgot to post about. I did an illustrated article on throwing a tea party for the November 2008 issue of the awesome girls’ manga magazine, Shojo Beat. You can buy it by clicking here!
There’s always something magical about holiday time in the city with all of the lights and festive atmosphere. Lately I was wandering down Greenwich Ave. and have come to the conclusion that it is a great place to shop for gifts!

In addition to the Chocolate Show I attended Tastings NYC which was held in conjunction and in the same venue. An $80 Tastings NYC ticket would also get you in to the Chocolate Show. Here are a few of the sweeter offerings they had on display. Ruby Et Violette’s drinking chocolate. So good….
T Salon is a tea shop and lounge in Chelsea Market which also serves tea infused food. It’s a large and open space, and I was interested to learn that their lovely light fixtures are made of used tea bags! But the point of this afternoon was to learn how to make tea infused tapenades [...]
The grand tasting was fun, but had a lot less in the sweets arena than I was expecting, perhaps because of the Sweet event, they focused mostly on savories. But there was still a lot of good food (and beverages) to be had and I found some sweet spots. Here is the insane Target Choxie [...]
I thought this would be a casual mingling event, but it was more like an intensive class where each person had a set of ten wines and ten matched cheeses to taste. It was led by Liz Thorpe, VP of Murray’s Cheese and I’d recommend this to anyone wanting to learn more on cheese and [...]
I just got back from the Chelsea Market After Dark event (hosted by Bobby Flay) and it was a blast! I love Chelsea Market anytime and this was a special opportunity to see it a little more behind the scenes, meet the people behind the food, and to try some of the spots I’ve never [...]
If you’re in NYC and have the chance I recommend checking out the Japan C event at Felissimo Design House (10 West 56th Street, New York City ). “A rolling eleven week exhibition of all things Japanese. It’s time for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and it’s traditional to eat sweet things at this time to usher in a sweet new year. Some of my favorite things to have for the holiday are the most basic. Apples dipped in honey (pomegranates in honey are also traditional) and challah bread dipped in [...]
Edible Manhattan just came out and I have a fun illustration in it of a unique cheese plate! Link here!
Time for another “Not Just Desserts” post! I am a fan of soy milk. I am also a fan of melon flavored things. When I lived in Tokyo I became fond of melon soda. It seems that green melon flavor is more popular in Asia than here because you don’t see too many American green [...]

I’ve decided to post more random musings about food that may not fall strictly within the dessert category, but nonetheless should be of interest to hungry New Yorkers. Also something to read in between comics! They will be in the “Not Just Desserts” category. This time I’d like to discuss fruit salad. In an effort [...]
