Traditionally on Chanukah Jews eat fried foods (like Potato Latkes) to represent the miracle of the oil lasting miraculously long. So sweets-wise a traditional food is jelly-filled donuts or Sufganiyot.

This was the first chance to attend an UnFancy Food Show, and there were a LOT of yummy sweets to try. Here are some highlights! (above pic – Robicelli’s cupcakes)

Mother’s Day is this weekend, so it’s time to think of treats and gifts for your special lady! As always, Eleni’s has a large selection of adorably decorated cookies!

I recently got to sample Sara Snacker’s Chipn’etzel cookies. They’re cookies with potato chip and pretzel bits baked inside and then dipped in chocolate for that special salty/sweet flavor combo. I tried the dark chocolate (my fave) and the white chocolate (my tasting assistant’s fave).

This has been quite a weekend. Two book signings, the Chile Pepper Fiesta, and the Atlantic Antic. Somehow, I’ve managed to survive all of the fun I’ve been having ^_^ Anyway, here is a photo parade from Saturday’s Chile Pepper Fiesta at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending the launch party for a new cookbook, The Craft of Baking by Karen DeMasco. It was an elegant event at Locanda Verde with sample versions of the recipes inside the book.  Everything was delicious but here are a few of my favorites.

So I’ve been meaning to try Jacques Torres ice cream all summer and I did today (finally)! As expected, I adored the Wicked ice cream, just like I love the Wicked hot chocolate.   One of the fun things about dessert blogging is trying out new things. Like these cookies the nice folks from Feed Your Soul Cookies in Jersey City sent. They’re the soft kind of cookies I like best!

  This being my second Fancy Food Show, I learned from last year and started from the lower floor where there were more sweets and less chance of being distracted by all the (seemingly thousands of) different types of cheeses and olives on the third floor. Now that’s what I call a real cheese cake!

Father’s Day is coming up June 21st and I have some sweet recommendations for the occasion! Eleni’s has this fun “Best Dressed Dad” cookie set!

I had the pleasure of attending this year’s Coffee and Tea Festival, and as I suspected, there were plenty of sweets to sample along with the great selection of coffees and teas. These are from Hancha Tea! (photo by Marion Vitus)

For those who observe Passover, kosher for Passover candy can bring a lot of fond memories. Raspberry jelly rings, macaroons, fruit slices, that Barton’s chocolate you were encouraged to sell to your elders every year (just like girl scout cookies!).
