Chocolate Tasting Extravaganza!
Here are some pics from the extravaganza that Global Giving Circle put on this past Saturday. It was an amazing event with a huge turnout and I got to enjoy many different chocolate items, many old faves and some new flavors too! For instance these Balsamic truffles from Donna & Company:
Another new thing I got to try was Mexican Chocolate flavored ice cream from Stogo. It is actually dairy and refined sugar free. And delicious!
One of the big hits was “Peanut Butter Jilly Time” basically a cracked up peanut butter / chocolate bar. really good and basic, made with no added sugar, dairy, or fat. It’s from a place called Short Bread and is available by ordering from this e-mail: shortbread (at) jshortdesigns (dot) com
This was also my first time getting to try Stumptown Coffee Roasters, which is starting to take NY by storm and it isn’t even widely available here yet! Anyway I tried the Wondo blend (I had asked for the least acidic / smoothest one since that’s how I roll). It was really good and complemented all the chocolate we had been eating perfectly. The coffee didn’t even need sugar and milk, and that’s how I usually take it, it was a nice and mellow brew.
One of my faves, Baked, was representing with a (constantly refilled) plate of their amazing brownies and cookies. I kept going back to those brownies!
Also they had a GIANT version of their Sweet and Salty chocolate cake.
Mariebelle was there with their beautiful truffles, the one I had was amazing, too bad the flavors weren’t labeled…
The Chocolate Room was there with their deep dark chocolate cupcakes. And arranged into a cute heart too! Awww…
This is all just a tip of the iceberg, other sponsors included: Vere, Vosges, Jacques Torres, Sweetriot, Divine, Fine and Raw, Amano, Bittersweet Escapes, Thirst Wine Merchants, Sweet Earth Chocolates, Theo Chocolate, Chocolate for Change, and Putamayo Wold Music.
This event was put on to benefit Project Hope & Fairness , a US based 501(c)(3) organization which supports African cocoa farmers & their families. The goal is to raise $5,000 so they can pay for a well to be built in one of the villages and buy a few scales used to weigh the cocoa. Scales are significant because farmers are often cheated by the middlemen who typically weigh the cocoa away from the villages.
100% of the proceeds after modest event expenses will be donated to Project Hope & Fairness.
ATTENTION: They are still looking to raise $1500. If you would like to help Global Giving Circle to reach the goal of $5,000 for the water well and scale initiative please go to www.projecthopeandfairness.org. To donate, look for the GGC link on the bottom of the home page.
Their next event is in April so you can sign up for their eNewsletter at www.globalgivingcircle.org and they’ll send you the details closer to the date.
