While in Toronto, we had an awesome brunch at Smith . I highly recommend the Scones and Coffee Cake (here plated with Rhubarb Jam and Lemon Curd) and the House Doughnuts. So good! Smith – 553 Church St, Toronto, ON M4Y 2E2, Canada Tweet
Here are some shots from the afternoon tea at The Windsor Arms Hotel I had with Yuuko Koyama when we were in Toronto for TCAF. It was very elegant and we had a lovely time! My favorites were the berry scones and the rolled cucumber sandwiches. Nothing will relax you like an nice afternoon tea! Windsor […]
While on book tour, I made a stop in Dallas, TX and came across this awesome chocolate shop, Kate Weiser Chocolate. It’s in the very cool Trinity Groves food court / shopping area which I highly recommend visiting if you’re in Dallas. Kate’s chocolates are gorgeous and delicious. I especially enjoyed the Yuzu and Red […]
While on book tour I had some pretty amazing sweets! These ones at Milo and Olive seriously stood out. I tried the Flourless Chocolate Cake with meringue topping and the Vanilla Raspberry Kouign Amann Tart. If you’re in the LA area, go there. Thanks to Rie for the recommendation! Milo and Olive – 2723 Wilshire Blvd. […]

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Spain to promote the Spanish edition of my book, Dolltopia! I had a fabulous time traveling with my Dad (whose Spanish is excellent) and trying out all of the fabulous food we could find. Here are pictures of some highlights! I loved trying all the great ice […]
I’m heading to Spain this week to celebrate Dolltopia’s Spanish release from Ediciones Kraken! Check out their great new site! Update- I’ll be making an appearance and presentation Friday May 18th 7-9pm at the Puebla 15 location of Madrid’s Generación X comic shop! Pass it on to your friends in Madrid! Here’s the facebook event […]
I’m back from my France and Belgium trip and I have a lot to report about my first time in Belgium! While it was a short (two-day) stay we tried to see as much as possible (impeded a bit by a badly timed train strike T_T). No matter! We were staying around Grand Place in […]
Last month I got to participate again in France’s Angoulême comics festival. I’ve exhibited the past two years as well and it’s always a blast! This year I was extra excited since my friend Yuuko Koyama came in from Japan to exhibit with us and then we took off for a short trip to Belgium […]
Here’s something really nice I had in Osaka at a shop called Ceylon Tea & Bread. They served my Earl Grey tea in a press with a timer and the tart was scrumptious!
Wow, I love the train bentos in Japan! This is another area where the Japanese just have it way better than we do in the U.S. food-wise.
Chocolate and Caramel scones with a latte at Cafe de COPAIN in Shibuya When we were staying in Shibuya, we found this cute cafe / pub near our hotel that had an amazing selection of fresh scones and other baked goods every morning. They were cheap too! (100 yen, which is a little over a […]
On a recent trip to Washington, DC, I made a visit to Baked and Wired, an excellent spot for sweets and coffee in the Georgetown neighborhood. As you may gather from the shop’s name (and the cupcake sign from the above photo) this shop isn’t your typical cutesy-pie bakery!
Matt and I had a blast at TCAF with our friends at Green Candy Press exhibiting and selling comics to fans. Always a good time! Here are a few bites I enjoyed on my trip. I noticed some turnover since last year; Sweet Tooth bakery and a crepe / waffle place in Greektown closed. But […]

Here’s a quick shot from Heavenly Cupcake where we got to make a quick stop before leaving San Diego Comic Con. Also Darlene of My Burning Kitchen gave me some yummy Jer’s candy bars (based in the San Diego area), which both feature peanut butter! I just love chocolate and peanut butter together. The pretzel […]
On my trip to Toronto last weekend, I got to check out a few places and noticed Butter Tarts as a recurring theme. I’ve never seen them in NYC and was psyched to try something new!
Just had to post these last few France photos on baked goods! Above, you see canelé from Parfums Sucrés in Angoulême! I discovered I adore canelé and will be on the lookout for them in NYC.
After Angoulême I headed to Paris for a very short (1 Day!) trip. As you can imagine I had a lot to cram into that day and managed to see the main sites; Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, and also had to get some sweets in there (of course)! I researched before the […]
Still ruminating on my recent trip to France, and lots more to come! I was in Angoulême for the comics festival and then Paris for just one day! Here is my comic about the sweets of Angoulême! Buy an 11×14 signed high quality giclee print of this comic for $29 (plus $6.50 shipping)! Canelé on […]
I just got back from my first trip to France for the Angoulême Comic Festival and I made a stop in Paris on the way back! Here are some pictures I took at Angoulême!
As doughnuts are part of Chanukah tradition I thought I’d post a bonus sketch I did based on one of my book tour stops in Portland, OR. The Voodoo Doughnut!
The Dolltopia Cupcake Tour was kicked off this weekend at Small Press Expo in North Bethesda, Maryland! After researching I found only one nearby bakery that would deliver, which was a necessity at this tour stop. So Cake Love it was!
